Job description

The Department of Political Science and International Relations within the Dornsife College of Letters, Arts, and Sciences is seeking applicants for an Academic Program Assistant. This position will be the primary person, with responsibility for development and maintenance of department website and social media outlets, coordination of departmental events and meetings, and department facilities maintenance. The department itself is comprised of approximately 60 faculty, 12 staff and serves nearly 1600 department majors and 5000 students annually.

We seek highly motivated candidates with strong communication and organizational skills, administrative and program coordination experience, as well as a genuine interest in working with staff and faculty to promote one of the largest academic departments at USC. This person will continue to develop and maintain the department profile using website and social media technology, as well as keep faculty and staff aware of developments in technology-oriented capabilities. This person will serve as the point of contact for department events and meetings, from advertising and promotion of events and program, to coordination of space, technology, and logistics. In addition, we seek an individual who can handle the coordination and maintenance of a large department, serving as the liaison for incoming faculty and staff who need to be setup with furniture and technology devices, maintaining department space and signage throughout the building, and addressing the technical needs of all faculty, staff, and students by collaborating with the university and college’s technology divisions.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Website development and maintenance, as well as social media
  • Ensuring timely communication regarding events, scholarship opportunities, and special programs
  • Lead coordination of special department-wide events like commencement
  • Oversee department space and office logistics
  • Serve as the department’s lead project manager for department moves and renovations
  • Serving as the central point of contact for facilities management and technical needs
  • Serving as the communication liaison for faculty, staff, and students participating in program events and activities
  • Other duties as assigned by department administration

Preferred Qualifications:

Education: Master’s degree

Experience: 5 years of experience in program administration

Expertise: Directly related project managment, program, and administrative experience. Strong website development, social media, oral, and written communication skills. Strong event and time management skills. Experience working with international students and first-generation students a plus.

Salary range: $25 – $29.20 per hour – will commensurate with experience and skills

Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree. Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education. Minimum Experience: 0-6 months Minimum Field of Expertise: Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills for interacting with both domestic and international stakeholders.
