WHAT ARE THE RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION?
Reporting into the Director of Accounting Reporting and Controls, The Assitant Director of General Ledger Administration will be responsible for:
Maintenance of all general ledger activities such as security rights, new chart-fields, and creation of allocations, reports, and queries
Participate in Ledger Oversight Committee and complete tickets submitted in a timely manor
Backup administrator with the Cadency Account Reconciliation tool
Liaising with Corporate IT on all system upgrades and interruptions
Participate in The Hartford Way including the use of Huddles, RCPS, Skills Matrix and Kanban Board
Communicate key Close the Books milestones
Population of Close the Books metrics owned by GL Admin
Assist auditors on the testing of controls related to the General Ledger and Cadency Account Reconciliation tool
Ensure the engagement of Offshore Cognizant resources
Successful candidates will:
Ensure all edits to the general ledger are made timely so that monthly close activities can be completed efficiently
Use problem solving skills to minimize waste in processes and to make recommendations for an efficient monthly close process
Work cohesively with other members of the Corporate Finance area and Corporate IT
Have the willingness to be flexible during close peak periods and to accept changing priorities, while continuing to meet customer needs
Identify and execute process improvement opportunities
WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
Our ideal candidate has a detailed understanding of PeopleSoft general ledger applications. Person must be a self-motivated problem solver with a working knowledge of insurance accounting.
To meet these functional requirements, this position must be able to establish and maintain effective relationships within The Hartford’s Controllers group, Corporate Tax, HIMCO Finance, Cognizant offshore staff supporting these roles and The Hartford’s external auditors. With each of these constituencies, the individual occupying this position must be regarded as a PeopleSoft authority and internal controls advocate for Close the Books activities.
Minimum of 5 to 7 years’ experience preferably with a history working in insurance accounting and/or public accounting.
Experience with financial systems: General Ledger and other finance modules, reporting systems, insurance administrative systems
Willingness to be flexible and able to successfully balance multiple competing priorities.
Well-developed communication, analytical and documentation skills.
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field.
Strong technical accounting and problem solving skills.
Takes ownership for meeting personal goals and objectives.
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
$91,440 – $137,160
