Job description: Overview

Assist Edith Bowen Laboratory School Child Nutrition Director with preparation, serving and cleaning up of school lunch for K-6 elementary. Dependability and reliability are a must.

Applicants must be able to work well with people of all ages, which includes elementary students, college students and the faculty, and staff of the school. Applicants must be able to read and follow a recipe in English and must be able to work independently as well as with a team through a variety of food related tasks each day. Applicants must have or be able to obtain a Food Handlers Permit or ServSafe Certificate.

We are hiring a substitute position. There is not a guaranteed number of hours per week; some weeks could be none, others could be 15-20. In many instances, you would be scheduled in advance when staff request time off, but it could also be morning of, if someone has an emergency. You would generally need to be available between the hours of 8 a.m. and 1 p.m., Monday-Friday.

Responsibilities

  • Ability to follow directions.
  • Ability to read and follow recipes.
  • Ability to work in a cafeteria/kitchen environment, which includes cleanup.

Qualifications

  • Prior experience in the food service industry or related experience.
  • Food Handlers Permit or ServSafe Certificate
  • Working with children and adults.

The position requires considerable physical activity. Employees must have sufficient strength to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position including heavy lifting (50 pounds) and/or pushing and pulling of heavy objects. Employees must be prepared to assume uncomfortable positions such as crawling, kneeling, and squatting. Additionally, the work environment can include confined or narrow spaces. Employees must adhere to safety precautions and may be required to use protective equipment.
