The current vacancy is in Mesa Fire and Medical Department (MFMD) Technical Services Division.
The Information Technology (IT) Engineer I class provides skilled technical services in support of installation, configuration, testing, integration, and ongoing support for City applications or infrastructure within one of the technical support areas of Business Applications and Application Development; Business Analytics; Database; Desktop and Mobile Services; Service Desk; Geographic Information System (GIS); Network; Security; Unified Communications; Server, Storage, and Backup; and Police Department-Information Technology (PDIT) Security.
Public Safety GIS/Business Analytics Assignment: This position assigned to the MFMD Technical Services Division will perform technical business analytics related to Fire applications, software, and data that directly impact operations including but not limited to: station area maps and response times; commercial building pre-plans; and street data network analysis. The position will also develop and analyze complex mapping data for problem resolution and strategic planning for operational concerns. The position requires a highly technical understanding of the MFMD data used in these business analyses while demonstrating the ability to communicate the complexities to customers or end users, and in reports utilized by Fire Senior Staff. Additionally, this position will perform technical GIS and CAD application and software development, support, and configuration. It will troubleshoot, customize fields, and add technical functionality within programs that allow for direct customization and coordinate directly with the outside manufacturers for those that restrict permissions and access for customizations. It will also prepare new application or system documentation and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
This class is also responsible for performing related duties as required. This class is FLSA exempt-computer professional (part-time employees in this class are FLSA nonexempt).
About the Ideal Candidate: The ideal candidate will be experienced in using the following application packages: ArcPro, ArcGIS, ArcSDE, Model Builder, Spatial Analyst, Network Analyst, FireView (Public Safety analytics tool), and AutoCAD Maps used in Fire Structure Preplan generation/modification. Candidates preferably will have experience providing graphical presentations of findings/recommendations through maps and other visual formats, including both written and oral presentations to management and other Fire technical staff. The ideal candidate will have experience in problem resolution, documentation, and testing related to enterprise GIS and supported systems such as CAD Dispatch; have a good working knowledge and experience building/supporting Fire Analytic web interfaces (ArcGIS on-line) in the past; and show a strong capability to learn with minimal supervision and demonstrate an ability to learn new GIS application(s) (VGI Interface) that aide in building the foundational pieces for the VersaTerm CAD mapping system.

Qualifications & Requirements

Minimum Qualifications Required. Any combination of training, education, and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate’s Degree in Computer Science, or a related field, such as Engineering or Geography (by assignment). Considerable (3 – 5 years) computer systems experience in at least one of the following technical support areas: Applications, Database, Desktop, GIS, Help Desk, Network, Security, Server, Service Desk, Telecommunications, or Web.
Special Requirements. For this position, an individual receiving a conditional offer of employment from the City of Mesa must pass a background investigation through the City of Mesa Police Department, the Arizona Department of Public Safety, and Federal Bureau of Investigation prior to commencing employment with the City of Mesa.
Substance Abuse Testing. Due to the safety and/or security sensitive nature of the assignment, individuals in this classification shall be subject to pre-employment or pre-placement alcohol, drug and/or controlled substance testing as outlined in City policy and procedures (Police and Fire and Medical Department Assignments).
