Under direct supervision, assists in the performance of a wide variety of maintenance activities in the construction, repair, and preservation of roads and bridges on the state highway system. May operate standard motorized equipment used in the construction and maintenance of highways of the movement of materials and supplies used to perform these maintenance activities on a District Cement Reclamation Specialty Crew. Operates 5 yard standard dump truck and flatbed truck for hauling materials such as asphalt, limestone, dirt, soil, cement, pipe, construction materials and debris. Operates small equipment such as brush chipper, steel wheel and pneumatic rollers, broom sweepers, and tractor with mower in conjunction with highway and bridge maintenance operations, and standard dump truck with snow plow attachment and sand spreader or brine sprayer applicator for removal of snow and ice from highways and bridges. Performs skilled manual labor in various duties such as full-depth base repairs, clearing of right-of-ways, patching potholes, cleaning drainage ditches, repairing shoulders, paving driveways and bridge repairs and other activities related to roadway and bridge maintenance. Flags traffic during road repairs to control flow of traffic to protect workers, general public and equipment. Removes litter, debris and dead animals form roadway and rights-of-way. Operates medium series equipment such as aggregate spreaders, larger rollers, tandem dump trucks and trailer mounted injection patcher and water trucks with various levels of formal and informal training. Conducts and documents pre-trip equipment /vehicle inspection in accordance with the Department’s most current rules, policies and procedures for fleet safety. Operates and maintains electric/gas powered tools in various phases of roadway maintenance. Assists in emergency or inclement weather operations and supporting on-call personnel. May include being available for extended hours or extended shift operations. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
There are no minimum training or experience requirements for this classification. Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required upon entry to the position. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement into the position.

Expected salary: $29120 – 36319 per year
