The primary purpose of this position is to support the HR Consultant for the State Laboratory of Public Health and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. This position will be responsible for (1) assisting with Division onboarding activities, (2) assisting with collecting new hire onboarding paperwork and maintaining confidential human resources files, (3) assisting with posting and screening positions, (4) handling inquiries from Division staff, and (5) other duties as assigned.

Salary Grade: NC05

Recruitment Range: $31,200 – $46,713

The NC Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), in collaboration with its partners, protects the health and safety of all North Carolinians and provides essential human services. This position supports the Division of Public Health (DPH). DPH is working for a healthier and safer North Carolina – Everywhere. Everyday. Everybody. Supporting over 1700 staff in the Division of Public Health (DPH), the Employment section of the Human Resources office recruits, retains, and trains qualified employees, evaluates compensation in accordance with Office of State Human Resources and Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) policies, and reviews and maintains position classifications for all positions.

Management Preference

  • Experience with HR Systems including NeoGov and Beacon.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Associate’s degree, typically in Human Resources from an appropriately accredited institution or relevant field and no years of experience required;


High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and 2 years of progressive experience in Human Resources.
