Job Title: Legal Assistant (Paralegal) I

Job Description:

The Public Lands and Policy Coordinating Office (PLPCO) has an outstanding

opportunity for up to two self-directed and motivated professionals to join our team as

Legal Assistants (Paralegal I) for 16 weeks. These positions will be primarily responsible

for the preferred candidate would be an excellent writer, team-oriented, organized, and

articulate.

Preference may be given to applicants with a professional background or education in

legal proceedings or natural resources; however, we are able and willing to train anyone

that is willing to learn and develop new skills. Prior legal experience is not required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Writes or drafts correspondence, reports, documents and/or other written materials
  • Analyzes, summarizes and/or reviews data; reports findings, interprets results and/or makes recommendations
  • Searches, retrieves and/or researches public and private records in accordance with applicable state and federal laws governing access to these records
  • Conducts interviews to gather or clarify information
  • Maintains document control, tracking and tracing; reviews case files and/or digests trial folders, etc.
  • Prepare trial or hearing materials including designing questionnaires, organizing evidence, preparing trial displays and exhibits, locating, obtaining, tracking and disseminating information/evidence, etc.
  • Manages trial exhibits and evidence; ensures procedures are followed/completed; takes notes and makes observations during proceeding; participates in planning and strategy sessions, etc.

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will possess experience in:

  • Time Management
  • Judgment and Decision Making
  • Computers and Electronics
  • Law and Government

Preferences:

  • Related education and work experience however are not required
  • A certificate in Paralegal Studies or Equivalent (i.e., successful completion of program- ABA approved OR accredited institution- consisting of 60 semester or equiv. quarter hours) with 15 hours of substantive legal courses

The Agency:

Public Lands Policy Coordination Office (PLPCO) is a small office that consists of very dedicated staff that work to protect access to public lands in Utah. As the Marketing and Communications Specialist, you will be able to join the team to coordinate, promote and implement Utah ‘s public land priorities thus providing Utahan’s with unique and lasting opportunities for access, economic prosperity, and stewardship.

Example of Duties

  • Writes or drafts correspondence, reports, documents and/or other written materials.

  • Risks found in the typical office setting, which is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated, e.g., safe use of office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations, etc.
  • Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work; however, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying light items; driving an automobile, etc. Special physical demands are not required to perform the work.
  • This is a part-time position and remote work opportunties may be available at the discretion of the Executive Director.
