Class Summary

Department Information: The Tax Commissioner is an elected Constitutional Officer responsible for every phase of collecting property taxes, from processing property homestead exemption applications through preparation of the digest, billing accounting and disbursements.

Division Information: Property taxes include those assessed on real estate, public utilities and ad valorem taxes on motor vehicles and mobile homes. These collections are disbursed to state, county, school and city governing authorities. As a tag agent of the State of Georgia, the Tax Commissioner is also responsible for the collections of all taxes, fees, and penalties for motor vehicles applicable under Georgia Code. The Tax Commissioner enforces all regulations mandated by the state.

Position Description: This position is responsible for performing general office activities requiring general knowledge of QuickBooks and banking. The essential duties include:

  • File, maintain, and complete data entry of financial records, logs, and forms
  • Maintain a variety of records, logs, and/or other related information
  • Gather data and information in support of financial preparation activities
  • Perform a variety of clerical functions, which may include: typing, answering phones, filing, copying, faxing, opening and distributing mail, and/or performing other related activities
  • Balance and reconcile financial reports against records
  • Respond to inquiries from employees, vendors, and/or other interested parties regarding payment, deposit, and/or other related information
  • Must be flexible and have excellent communication skills and work well under pressure
  • Required fiduciary responsibilities

This job entails fiduciary responsibility and will require a credit and background check.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Two years customer service experience
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
