The Utah Division of State History is seeking to hire an Outreach Historian under the Department of Cultural and Community Engagement.
The Outreach Historian is responsible for broad outreach and engagement with colleges and universities on behalf of the Peoples of Utah Revisited initiative (POUR) within the Utah Division of State History. Through POUR, the Division seeks to energize and gather new historical research on Utah’s diverse communities as our flagship project for America 250. As an agency, the Division recognizes how much Utah has changed in the 50 years since the original Peoples of Utah was published in 1976. More than 100 racial, ethnic, religious, cultural, and disability communities make up the fabric of Utah today.
The Outreach Historian will work with a team of public historians to help bring the vision of POUR and allied Division programs to fruition in the years leading up to 2026.
The Outreach Historian will be responsible for coordinating the effort to seed new historical research and scholarship, engaging with college and university communities across the state. The Outreach Historian will be a critical team member of the POUR Initiative, helping to shape how we continue to engage with scholarly audiences and ensure that the Utah Division of State History activates the pipeline of new scholars, researchers, and other individuals interested in pursuing history work.
This position resides within the Utah Division of State History under the Department of Cultural and Community Engagement and will report directly to the Public History Program Manager, Wendy Rex Atzet.
Preference will be given to candidates who have a demonstrated interest and background in Utah history and/or ethnic studies in the American West. Preference will also be given to individuals who have a demonstrated background in historical research. Travel is required for this position, up to 30% of the time.
Successful candidates will be comfortable making connections with people from varied backgrounds, giving oral and visual presentations, and in written communication. Excellent organizational and project management skills are necessary.

Compensation | Hours
This is a full-time, benefitted position with a full State of Utah benefits package, which includes annual leave, health, and retirement benefits. Hourly rate: $22-24.
